No official patch notes?

Wow.com featured the Korean translation but we still have not seen any notes on the official World of Warcraft page. I’m downloading the patch and can’t play the game without it.  Weird…

The update gave them to me so here it is, with nothing lost in translation:

  • Halls of Stone
    • Brann Bronzebeard has been getting into shape and now feels comfortable walking faster when escorted.
  • The Forge of Souls
    • The Devourer of Souls will now cast Mirrored Souls less often.
    • The Spell Reflect ability has been altered on several creatures. It now has a cast time, only has 2 charges, and has a 75% chance of reflecting spells.
  • The Nexus
    • Anomalus will now use the Create Rift ability only once, down from 3 times.
  • The Old Kingdom
    • Elder Nadox now only gets one Ahn’Kahar Guardian during the encounter.
    • Jadoga Shadowseeker now only ascends once during the encounter.
    • Several enemies between the Befouled Terrace and The Desecrated Altar have been removed or had their pathing altered.
  • Pit of Saron
    • Players can now zone back into the instance if they are dead while encounters with Krick and Ick or Forgemaster Garfrost are in progress.
  • Utgarde Pinnacle
    • Skadi the Ruthless can now be removed from his drake with 3 harpoon strikes, down from 5.
    • Svala Sorrowgrave now casts Ritual of the Sword 1 time during the encounter, down from 3.
  • Vault of Archavon
    • Toravon, the latest boss to join the Vault’s giants and masters of the elements, is now accepting challengers in 10- and 25-player formats.
  • The Violet Hold
    • The time between a boss being defeated and a new portal opening has been decreased.

Druids

    • Balance
      • Earth and Moon: This talent now increases the druid’s spell damage by 2/4/6%, up from 1/2/3%.

Shamans

    • Elemental Combat
      • Shamanism: This talent now provides 4/8/12/16/20% extra spell damage to Lightning Bolt/Chain Lightning, up from 3/6/9/12/15%, and 5/10/15/20/25% to Lava Burst, up from 4/8/12/16/20%.

Warlocks

  • Talents
    • Affliction
      • Shadow Embrace: This effect can now stack up to 3 times, up from 2. However, the periodic healing reduction effect has been reduced from 3/6/9/12/15% to 2/4/6/8/10% per application.
    • Demonology
      • Demonic Pact: The damage bonus granted the warlock by this talent has been increased from 1/2/3/4/5% to 2/4/6/8/10%. The buff granted to a raid or party by this talent remains unchanged.
    • Destruction
      • Conflagrate: The damage-over-time effect of Conflagrate has been increased to 40% of the spell’s total damage, up from 20%.
      • Empowered Imp: The pet bonus damage provided by this talent has been increased to 10/20/30%, up from 5/10/15%.
      • Improved Shadow Bolt: Damage done by Shadow Bolt increased by 2/4/6/8/10%, up from 1/2/3/4/5%.

Warriors

  • Talents
    • Protection
      • Shield Slam: The damage scaling from block value for this ability now diminishes faster and diminishes starting at a lower block value. The difference should be negligible for players in high-end tanking armor. In addition, the threat caused by Shield Slam has been increased by 30%.
      • Warbringer: This talent no longer allows Charge and Intercept to break roots or snares. Intervene remains unaffected.

User Interface

  • The party leader is now referred to as Guide in chat when a group is formed via the Dungeon Finder.
  • Fixed a bug where players with Raid Assist capabilities were unable to perform a Ready Check.
  • Fixed a bug where the first couple of tutorials were not displaying upon logging into the game.

Items

  • New strength-based melee DPS rings are now available from representatives of the Ashen Verdict.
  • Tier-10 Elemental Shaman 4-Piece Set Bonus: Redesigned. Successful Lava Burst casts now increase the duration of Flame Shock on the target by 6 seconds.

Raiding as a BM Spirit Beast wielding Hunter

Introduction

Beast Mastery has fallen off the top DPS spec for hunters after the big nerf of 3.0.8.  We can use spread sheets to figure this out.  There are some loyalist who still stick to BM and there are some who love their Spirit Beast.  I fall into both categories.  In November I caught a spirit beast and I want to raid with it.  I didn’t spend all my time camping to have a pet sit in my stable.  I did my research and started a couple of threads.  This post is an amass of what I found.

The Hunter spec (56/15/0)

This spec will give you the decent DPS out of the box.  Compared to the cookie cutter spec I left out Survival Instincts and Improved Tracking.  If you are not hit capped I recommend putting the points you need into Focused Aim.  I also recommend using FemaleDwarf.com to see what works out best for you with your current gear.  Tweak the spec to your needs.  Remove Aim Shot if you wish.

The pet spec

I love my Skoll and I hate to see him die.  Heart of the Phoenix and Lick Your Wounds are here for a reason.  Both abilities don’t cost the Hunter any mana and don’t have a cast time.  Which means we don’t cast anything to heal or revive our pet.  Once in a while we would have to throw in a Mend Pet if our healer is down or not paying attention.  Our pets also don’t auto cast HotP.  Which means we have to click on it on our pet bar or macro it in to our Call Pet / Revive Pet / Mend Pet macro.  HotP is better than Revive Pet by bringing our pet back to life with full health not partial health and costs no mana.  The extra attack power is from Shark Attack is minimal compared to a the DPS loss we would receive if our pet dies.  You could also spec 1 point in to Great Stamina instead of Dash.  With a good healer this build makes our ferocity pets nearly Immortal in 5 mans.

With my current gear and using the spreadsheet I figured out that 2 points in Shark Attack is about a 179 DPS gain.  If our pet dies that is about a 3000 DPS loss.  I also had all the best raid buffs turned on.

The glyphs

Major – There is no best glyph.  The glyph that works for you changes with new patches and gear.  Here are the ones I recommend in alphabetical order:

Glyph of Bestial Wrath –  A 20 second reduction to a 2 min cool down.  You get to pop it more often.

Glyph of the Beast – 2% damage increase to our pet and our mêlée damage.  Great for those fights where the hunter runs around while the pet stays on the boss.

Glyph of the Hawk – Increase our haste bonus from Improved Aspect of the Hawk by 6%.

Glyph of Kill Shot – Decrease the cool down of every Hunters hardest hitting shot by 6 sec.  Use Kill Shot every 9 sec instead of 15 sec.

Glyph of Serpent Sting – Increases the duration of this sting.  Useful during our Steady Shot spam or with our Tier 9 or Tier 10 set bonuses.

Glyph of Steady Shot – Increase the damage dealt by Steady Shot by 10% while Serpent Sting is active on it.  Also useful during our Steady Shot spam or with our Tier 9 or Tier 10 set bonuses.

To max your DPS food is absolutely required in a raid.

Fish Feast – Tasty!

Great Feast – Just as tasty.

Blackened Dragonfin – Cheap alternative to Fish Feast.  Just go above Moa’ki Harbor in Dragonblight to Lake Indu’le and fish these guys.  They sell for a nice profit too.

Pet Buff foods

Spiced Mammoth Treats – I never bothered to read the cooking recipes long enough to notice this one.  Yes bring it with you to every raid.  Never leave home without.  Make your pets happy and more powerful.

Shots and Skills

Kill Command – Increases our pets special attacks by 60%.  Decreases the bonus after each attack.  I forgot about Kill Command.  My Bestial Wrath macro has it in there.  After I made the macro I forgot about it.  I can’t remember where I saw it but macro Kill Command to all your shots.  3 points in Catlike Reflexes reduces the cool down of this ability by 30 sec giving us a 100% up time.

Kill Shot – This is our finishing move.  Use it as soon as you can.  Watch the bosses health and when it gets close stop shooting your other shots and just wait for its health to get to 20%.  You want to see yourself crit for 15000+ damage in one shot right?  The shot is dependent on RAP so make sure your Aspect of the Dragonhawk is turned on.

Bestial Wrath – Our pet as a BM is our other Shot and around 40% – 50% of our DPS.  Use this every chance you get.  With The Beast Within this is also our bubble.  It breaks fear.  So while the raid runs away.  You stay and still get to play.  It also decreases our mana cost of all spells by 50%, a good time to pop all our shots, Kill Command, a haste trinket or Rapid Fire, and Mend Pet.  See the macros section below.

Arcane Shot – One of our main shots.  Use this as much as you can.  It also deals Arcane damage which ignores armor.  Ferocious Inspiration increase our damage dealt by Arcane shot by 9%.  Just awesome.

Steady Shot – Our filler shot.  Maybe we use it more than other specs but who cares.  The glyph really buffs this shot.

Serpent Sting – The little damage it does yet we are so dependent on it.  Our Glyphs and set bonuses just thrive on this sting. We love it.

Master’s Call – Don’t forget this spell like I did.  Using this with Bestial Wrath makes our pets unstoppable.

Aspects of the…

Aspect of the Dragonhawk – Increases our DPS and the spell power of our Spirit Beast.  Use this aspect during the stand still and shoot the boss phase.

Aspect of the Beast – Increases the mêlée attack power of our Spirit Beast and our mêlée attack power.  If we are moving around during the fight and our pet is still chewing on the Boss’ behind then use this aspect.

Aspect of the Viper –  Try to stay out of this one as much as possible.  Use it to recover your mana.  If your boss is almost down only stay in this aspect as long as you need it to recover your mana for Kill Shot.

The Hunter spec variations

Revive Pet spec if you don’t like HotP and want your pet spec to do more damage.  This just means you’ll spend more time in Aspect of the Viper, have less mana for your shots, and your pet won’t recover from a revive with full health.  If you pet doesn’t recover with full health then you have to wait little bit longer for your pet to get back in the action.

Using the spreadsheet this is the better DPS spec without Ferocious Inspiration and Aimed Shot.  Wait!  Don’t do it.  Why?  You’ll lose out 9% damage increase to Arcane Shot and gain a 4% increase to all shots.  If your critical hit chance is really low, find all your shots critically hitting more than Arcane Shot, or your guild brings the other lesser classes that bring the similar buff then by all means drop the abilities.

Blizzard Downloader Patch 3.3

I love the new looks of the Blizzard Downloader.  It just sums up what we have been fighting for in one little image.  You see the Lich King, someone that looks like the Orc Shaman responsible for turning Arthas, and some hot Banshee or Naga babe in the background.  They will die.

Moving on…

What am I going to be doing while I wait for this downloader?

  1. Clean the house
  2. Write a blog
  3. Listen to Pandora Radio since I feel like I’ve been away from music for a bit
  4. Play some Borderlands
  5. Get ready for work
  6. Hope the downloader finishes before I leave
  7. Figure out how to raid as a Beast Master Hunter

Call of the Crusade
